HISTORY OF ANKLETS
History portrays that anklets were first worn in Egypt. Almost every social class wore them as a feminine ornament. And why not, after all, they adorn the beauty of the foot or leg. The oldest anklets are said to be more than 8000 years old. They were much more than just fashion jewellery then. Women in Mesopotamia used to wear them to show off their husband’s wealth and status! In Arab countries, where the purdah system was prevalent, anklets were worn by women to let people know about their arrival in the surroundings. Anklets are also deeply rooted in the Indian culture, many states have their own variations of the anklets but generally, they are worn as a symbol of good fortune!
